Contingent faculty at Pacific Lutheran University began organizing to join SEIU 925 in 2013. When faculty successfully petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to conduct a union election, a federal government shutdown during the election process led to a large number of votes not being counted. Pacific Lutheran faculty haven’t yet won our union. However, our organizing led the National Labor Relations Board to a groundbreaking decision that paved the way for full-time contingent faculty and faculty at religious institutions to organize around the country.
